Red-light district in Amsterdam

First of all I must say that I did not like it. It is too commercial (it's everything a tourist attraction), to pervers (the masturbation boxes are just disgusting, old perverse people walking and touching them self looking in a window... bleah) and to dangerous (thieves and drugs everywhere).

Above all I do not like it because it is not 'true that legalizing prostitution you destroy the criminal. There are many social consequences of prostitution, rather than the practice itself which we can accept. In fact there's been a lot of concern about human trafficking and forced prostitution in nowadays dutch politics.
Moreover the dutch are not very proud that their capital city had been reduced, in the eyes of the world, to a place for foreigners to smoke dope and buy sex.

I did a tour with my girlfriend to see this bad place. Here are some pictures:

So after my digression let's finally speak about red-light district. This is a part of an urban area in Amsterdam (but it is present also in other dutch cities like Haarlem) where there is a concentration of prostitution and sex-oriented businesses, such as sex shops, strip clubs, and adult theaters. The red light district is a network of alleys containing a little less than three hundred tiny one-room cabins rented by female prostitutes who offer their services from behind a window or glass door, illuminated with red lights.

If you are wondering the prices are between 50 to 100 euros for twenty minutes. Strangely not everything is included. You need to check even if the girl will take off all the clothes. You should also inform about partner's sex before... you never know...

However this phenomenon is not typically dutch: in the next map, the green countries are those where the organized prostitution is legal.
